Description
'Reflections' by Ben Kilburn
*Live Auction
This work is inspired by the theme of 'reflection'. I have taken simple, abstract forms and developed them as a pattern that literally reflects itself along the horizontal and vertical axes, but is also slightly distorted, in turn reflecting an imperfect world. The painting also represents an absorbing symbolism, intended to draw the viewer deep into the painted space, as an invitation to 'reflect' and meditate. In this way, it is hoped that it is read in many ways, depending on the experiences and emotions of the onlookers.

Ben Kilburn is a practising architect and artist living with his family in Hackney, and with a practice in King’s Cross (Kilburn Nightingale Architects). Working from the garden shed, he has a keen interest in sketching, painting and collage, and over the years his artwork has moved away from the figurative to a more abstract approach. Much of the inspiration for this art comes from observation of the urban, rural and in-between ‘landscapes’ that surround us. The paintings and collages are an exploration of this inspiration and are layered through a process of trial and error, and numerous overlaid experiments with sketching, leading to a ‘destination’. His work has recently been exhibited, and can also be seen on instagram - @benkilburnart.
