Spear Camden
Spear takes young people aged 16-24, all facing barriers to employment, and puts them through an intensive six week programme, with CEO-level group and one-on-one coaching, mock interviews, CV and covering letter help plus visits to businesses. They receive ongoing support for a minimum of 12 months and after a year 75% of the young people are in full time training, employment or education. This is an amazing statistic, especially when you consider that many of the young people have had appalling starts in life. This year alone Spear Camden has helped young people with a variety of complex needs including ex-offenders, those coming out of the care system, some suffering homelessness, escaping gang violence, or struggling with acute anxiety. It costs just £2000 to transform a young person's life forever.
We will also be raising funds for the XLP mentoring service, for young people aged 11-18 who live in our borough and are at risk of being excluded from school or tempted into gangs.
Young people are matched with a volunteer mentor who meets up with them for 1-2 hours a week over a year. It works!
