Central Saint Martins: Fashion is thrilled to announce the Grayson Perry Dress Auction.

Unmissable in his flamboyance, it comes as little surprise that Turner Prize winning artist Grayson Perry has collaborated with Central Saint Martins’ BA Fashion Design: Print students for the better part of two decades. The University is renowned for producing avant-garde, dynamic talent, so it makes sense that Perry, an artist known for defying norms, would gravitate towards the work of its students.

Since 2004, the second-year designers on the BA Fashion Design: Print pathway have undertaken the annual ‘Make Something Gorgeous for Grayson Perry’ project - both a challenge and an honour for designers looking to showcase authenticity and leave a mark on the rich history of Central Saint Martins.

The gowns are ripe in ruffs and frills, magnetic vibrancy and homage to the artist’s life - even down to his childhood teddy bear Alan Measles.

Each spectacular dress has been carefully crafted to fit Perry’s infamous alter ego, Claire. Tutor and project creator Natalie Gibson says, “He tries on everybody's outfit, he does a dance, he brings shoes to match everything... it’s like a cabaret!” Bright colours, bold textiles and Claire’s signature flounce are imprinted on all 39 pieces.

With all funds going to Central Saint Martins’ Fashion department, our student-led auction seeks to give these unique, meaningful dresses new companions while supporting the arts economy.

Featuring pieces from alumni designers such as Maia Bergman and Mimi Wade, each purchase will go on to empower and support a new generation of fashion students who will shape the future of the industry.

All items are sold in their current condition. Please see individual lot descriptions for more information.
