Reflection 23 by Tim Gledstone (and NFT)

*Live Auction

Looking back to look forwards. Looking in to look out. From corona viruses to intergalactic nebulas. Reflection 23 knows no scale, it lives and breathes in a static captured sculptural form, but also as an NFT. Its primal spherical form is generated from parametric hexagonal cells found throughout the DNA of nature but also at the heart of the new James Webb Telescope – its gold-plated mirrors capturing the universe over 13 billion lights years away.

Reflection 23’s spherical hexagonal form has adapted into part gold reflector. These reflectors have stimulated the surrounding hexagonal cells. Gravitational pull anchors three of the cells to terra firma. Reflection 23 is just one state of the changing reflector.

3D printed using a plant-based resin, sprayed in lacquer made up of 80% brass filings, with a gold leaf detail. Mounted on a base of stained sapele in a glass bell jar. The piece also exists in the digital space as an NFT which will be awarded to the winning bidder.

Artworks by Tim Gledstone explore traditional mediums alongside contemporary crafted processes. Combining timeless analogue with emerging digital manufacturing, he creates an abstract narrative of subject, place and message. Selected materials and production processes are directly linked to the subject or sculpture itself.

Beyond art and sculpture installation pieces, Gledstone is a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects. He is one of four Partners at award winning practice Squire & Partners and has been responsible for the design and delivery of several of the practice’s key projects. Leading a team of architects, illustrators, interior designers and model makers, his creative input has earned the practice several awards from the RIBA, British Council of Offices and the Civic Trust.

Work created under Gledstone’s direction has been exhibited in Shanghai and Milan, in London at The Royal Academy and the Royal Institute of British Architects, Royal Festival Hall and the London Design Festival. He has been a regular contributor to the annual Article 25 10x10 Drawing in the City programme, exhibiting alongside Antony Gormley and Richard Wilson.
