Form I by Peter Ayres

Figurative sculpture in hand cut, creased and folded paper. This piece continues an exploration of the potential of paper as a sculptural medium. In this piece, strict mathematical origami principles are used to describe the subtle curves of the human body, with a pleasing tension between emergent ripples and the descriptive outlines. The iridescent orange/gold paper means that the piece changes appearance with the changing light of the day.

Peter Ayres' art practice follows a lifelong exploration of the folding possibilities of paper. First inspired by origami books on a dusty shelf, and later discovering curved folding, his recent practice has focused on developing unique figurative and abstract sculptures, from a large profile of The Queen's head to David Bowie's jumpsuit. His ideas permeate his work as a director of Beep Studio, and he teaches paper sculpting techniques to architects with Drawing at Work.
